Everything you need to know about Pastor’s Monday
FAQ’s
Why Monday’s?
Most Pastors have Monday off. Monday is their Saturday.
What is the goal of Pastor’s Monday?
To serve Pastors.” Pastoring is a lonely job. Certainly, they are surrounded by people. Yes, people are praying for them. But do they have a place to go where they can truly be “off duty?” That’s the goal of Pastor’s Monday.
Who can come?
Pastors only!
Can Elders, Deacons, or friends of Pastor’s who fish come?
No. Nope. Nada. Why? Because if a Pastor and an elder are in the boat, then the Pastor has to be “On.” We want Pastors from different churches to spend time together chasing fish.
What’s the program?
There is no program- just fish. The relationships built are organic and we know a Pastor will forget what they had for lunch last Tuesday, but never forget a fish landed on a Pastor’s Monday.
Why is confidentially so important to PM?
Pastor’s Monday is for Pastors and anything said stays in the boat.
What rivers do you fish?
Our home river is the famous Rogue River in Southern Oregon, but within 90 minutes we can be on the North Umpqua, Klamath, Applegate, Williamson, Wood, Upper Sacramento, Smith or the Pacific. As demand has grown, we have people wanting to start Pastor’s Monday chapters in Central Oregon, the Willamette Valley, Northern California, Texas, Tennessee and Washington State.
Is it flyfishing only?
No but, we are fly fishermen and prefer to swing flies for steelhead.
What if a Pastor doesn’t fly fish?
Perfect. We have decades of teaching flyfishing under our wading belts and teaching is a big part of Pastor’s Monday.
What Denominations are welcome?
All.
Are these guided trips?
Yes. All safety precautions are taken in account, all guides are highly experienced, and the food is generally as good as a church potluck.
What if a Pastor wants to bring their son, daughter or grandkid?
We serve Pastors. If they want to bring a kid-we make it happen.
What does Pastor’s Monday need?
More Urban Pastors.
We really want to put urban and rural Pastors together, Pastors of affluent churches with Pastors of small congregations, Pastors whose Sunday is in English with Pastor’s whose Sunday might not be in English. We take pairing Pastors together very seriously because we want them to enjoy the company and the day, but we really want to allow Pastors to support each other across urban and rural divides.
Fly-fishing gear (rods, reels, waders – even more drift boats)
When this started with was just Jason Atkinson and his lifetime of rods, old waders, and boots. Now we get Pastors of all shapes and sizes and need more waders, boots, and rods. .
Funds for a Trip of a Lifetime
Some supporters have asked about helping us take a group of Pastors to either Alaska or Baja Mexico and we are very thankful. We have a separate account where 100% of Trip of a Lifetime goes into taking a group no larger than eight on these guided trips of a lifetime.
How do I start a Pastor’s Monday chapter in my area?
Contact us and plan to join our guide school in 2021.
Statement of Faith
That the Holy Scriptures, as given by God are Divinely inspired, infallible and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
In one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, and His atoning death.
In the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, in His personal return, and the judgment of the world by Him.
That “all have sinned” and are justly exposed to the judgment of God.
That redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin is possible only through the death, shed blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, enabling the believer to live a holy life and to witness and work for Him.
That all believers are baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit and thus, being members of one another, are responsible for keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, loving one another with a pure heart fervently.
We’ve Learned
There is a need, more precisely, a demand for Pastor’s Monday.
We have learned that two Pastor’s fishing together, two people who share the same calling and carry similar burdens, are bonded together by the experience.
We have learned not wanting anything from a Pastor, and simply serving them, is refreshing.
We have Pastors now from all over Oregon wanting to join and interest from other states to start Pastor’s Monday Chapters.
Its’ better to stand in a river and think about church than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
We have learned Pastor’s don’t necessarily like being around other Pastor’s at conferences and community meetings, but they deeply enjoy each other in a drift boat.
Pastor’s like good food and baked goods.
Cell phones turn fish off.
Pastor’s Monday needs more quality fly-fishing rods, waders and drift boats.
After a few Monday’s with us, every Pastor starts dreaming of trip with us to Alaska or Mexico.
One thing we’ve noticed is Pastors spend a Monday with us, casting the best of the best equipment, then find out they can’t afford a spey rod. We are looking for spey rods, spey reels, and lines we can give to Pastors who fish with us at least three times. We have custom rod builders wanting to build Pastor’s Monday’s spey rods- we just need blanks
